Behind the scenes of CBMUN-21

Fabiola Terán Colmenares

Firstly, as a reminder, this MUN was the first one made by students for students, what I mean by that is that it was fully organized, directed, and administered by students of grades 11th and 12th. Going from assigning topics and committees to selling candy in order to raise money, it was all done by students who put all their hard work into this project.

Since I entered the school in the year 2018, MUN has always been an important event, everyone always dressed nicely and made their position papers. However, it never really seemed to be fun for the students, only a few of them really showed interest, but most of them did it by obligation.

This year we wanted things to be different, we wanted to create an event where students had fun, one where they would like to participate. A group of 32 students, led by Miss Susana Vega, joined and created the organization committee. I was part of the committee; at first, I was really confused because I was unsure about what to do. It was my first time organizing an event but I knew I wanted to participate. We divided the group into 3 categories: logistics, which was in charge of the development of the event, the sponsors, and the functionality; academics, which was in charge of developing committees and topics for these; and social media, they were in charge of promoting the event, taking pictures and making it appealing for the students.

I chose to be part of the logistics team. Although all teams had responsibilities, it was no secret that logistics was the one that had the most. All of the functioning of the event laid on us, we had to make sure that everything was perfect. I’m not going to pretend that I wasn’t stressed, but it was really fun. My job on the team was to raise money, and to organize the ceremonies; my team was led by Regina Vega.

Organizing an event was really time-consuming, it gave me experience on how the “real” world works, I had to manage school work, MUN work, and my afternoon activities. Not many of you may know this, but I studied at another school during the first year of high school (which was also the first year of the pandemic), and during this time I was laid back, I didn’t really have much homework and I spent my afternoons sleeping and watching netflix. When I returned to CBB it was a drastic change, but I couldn’t be happier, so at first, it was really a lot of work.

Would I recommend participating in the organization of MUN? Absolutely yes! I loved the experience and definitely would do it again. It needs a lot of responsibility and commitment put in. but overall it’s an amazing experience. As part of the organization committee, we hope you enjoyed the event.
